Shelters
of Saratoga (SOS) is the only homeless shelter in Saratoga,
Washington, or Warren Counties. SOS has been in existence
for 16 years. SOS helps over 250 individuals each year with
shelter, food, clothing, employment, transportation assistance
and case management.
Once
someone leaves the Shelter, we offer continued services, which
are designed to prevent the recurrence of homelessness. We
also operate a NY State sponsored Neighborhood Preservation
Program. Through this program, we have provided grant assistance
to over 100 low-income homeowners in Saratoga Springs with
rehabilitation on their owner-occupied houses.
SOS
has also provided assistance to over 120 low- income senior
citizen households in the Saratoga area in the past 10 years
with emergency, health, welfare repairs on their owner occupied
homes. Funding for these programs comes from both the city
of Saratoga and NY State.
SOS
owns and operates two apartment buildings for lower-income
senior citizens in the city of Saratoga Springs.
The
mission of SOS is to provide shelter, advocacy and referral
services for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness.
In addition to operating our transitional Shelter, SOS is
dedicated to developing and maintaining affordable housing
opportunities for low to moderate-income families and individuals.
